How to become a truffle hunter

Woods, streams, small villages, colors and scents — this is our land; and it is right here that Olivia has created her world.

Bees, which produce exceptionally high-quality honey thanks to the variety of local flora, are one of Olivia’s great passions — a passion that, over time, has become her profession. Today, she cares for 250 beehives together with Lorenza, one of her daughters.

But her greatest love has always been truffle hunting.

For over twenty years, Olivia has passionately devoted herself to this activity, accompanied by her four-legged friends. To search for truffles, she primarily uses the Lagotto Romagnolo, the quintessential truffle dog. She has always trained her dogs herself, building an even deeper bond and trust with them. Olivia tells us that, now joined by Lorenza — to whom she has passed on this passion — she searches for white truffles, black truffles, and black prized truffles, an activity that spans many months of the year. Especially during white truffle season, any excuse is a good one to spend a day in the woods — or even a night!

Would you like the forest and its magic to become part of your life, even just for a day?

That’s exactly what Olivia and Lorenza would like to share with those who wish to dive into this adventure and experience truffle hunting firsthand. In their company — and with their faithful companion Baloo leading the way — you’ll get to step into the shoes of a true truffle hunter.

The day will begin with a meet-up at the La Traversina farmhouse, followed by a short introduction and explanation of truffle hunting. Then we’ll head into the woods, where, with a bit of luck, we may make some exciting discoveries. At the end of the walk, those who wish can purchase freshly found truffles — or taste them directly at La Traversina.
